‘Bad Sisters’ star Duff opens up about the aftermath of the murder in S2

Darkly humorous, serious murder cases continue in Season 2 of the hit Irish series “Bad Sisters.”

Co-writer and producer Sharon Horgan stars as Eva, the eldest of Dublin’s five Garvey sisters. Ursula (Eva Birthistle), along with Bibi (Sarah Greene) and Becka (Eve Hewson), rescue their sister Grace (Anne-Marie Duff) from a horribly abusive marriage to the sadistic, endlessly manipulative Jean-Paul in S1. They decided they had to save it. (Claes Bang).

Their “bad” solution? Murder – disguised as “accidental death”.

S2 begins two years later with a twist: Grace has actually moved on and is a newlywed.

“Grace is such a lost soul, isn’t she?” Duff said in a Zoom interview. he admitted. He feels like he doesn’t exist unless he’s in a relationship. And any relationship works!

“So he’s getting ready to attach himself to very unhealthy people to find some kind of security. How her relationship with her new husband will progress is a big journey. “He’s very different from Jean-Paul, so it’s very interesting.”

Duff, who played unforgettable roles in films such as “The Magdalene Sisters” and “Nowhere Boy,” won both the British Academy Television Award and the Irish Film and Television Award for her role as Grace, who resembles a wounded bird.

“Isn’t it like a wounded bird? He has lost his wings and is therefore grounded. This is actually his sadness. That he fell into a trap.

“He was stuck in a very unhealthy marriage and now he’s stuck in this secret (of what he did).

“Even though we see him full of joy and happiness at the beginning of Season 2, we know he can’t fly because he’s weighed down by this terrible guilt he has and the knowledge that there will be compensation for it.”

He also drinks a glass of wine all the time. Is Grace a functioning alcoholic?

“I think,” Duff, 52, replied, “he desperately needs anesthesia because he needs to act like there’s nothing behind him so he can keep moving forward.

“And the way to do that for him is to make everything a little blurry around the edges. I think a lot of people are guilty of trauma, right?

“We are implying that he lost control. Looks like he’s got everything sorted out. But it is actually slowly falling apart.”

“Evil Sisters” had an outstanding reception domestically, with weekly viewing parties. None of the cast had signed on with any terms for another season.

“It’s so extraordinary to realize that something takes off and is really loved by audiences. You never know,” Duff added from experience. “You just throw things in there and hope they stick. And that really worked.”

Season 2 of “Bad Sisters” will be released in 2 parts on AppleTV+ on November 13.
