Our order to stop PDP congresses in Abia still stands – Court order

The Bende Judicial Division of the Abia State High Court, presided over by Justice CU Okoroafor, has told the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that its previous order restraining the party from holding state, local government and district congresses in Abia State is yet to be set aside.

The court decision dated October 25 was in accordance with the case marked HB/3/2024 filed by Francis Etuzu, Chidindu Kalu Kalu and Enyinnaya Ogbu.

The court also ordered contempt proceedings against PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; Abia PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman, Alwell Asiforo Okere; and Caretaker Committee Secretary Kenneth Madubuike.

Defendants in the case include PDP (excluding plaintiffs), PDP National Chairman, PDP National Financial Secretary, PDP National Organizing Secretary and PDP National Legal Advisor.

Part of the judgment reads as follows: “Plaintiffs/Applicants are hereby granted permission to file Forms 48, 49 and all other processes in connection with the contempt proceedings in this case against the Defendants, namely, Senator Samuel Anyanwu (National Secretary). , PDP), Alwell Asiforo Okere, (Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Abia State PDP) and Kenneth Madubuike (Secretary, Caretaker Committee, Abia PDP) by other means, by delivering the same to any adult inmate at the PDP Abia Secretariat, Onyerobi Close, outside House of Assembly Road, Umuahia, Abia State or by electronic means by pasting the same at the PDP Abia State Secretariat at Onyerobi Close, outside House of Assembly Road, Umuahia and/or through the personal WhatsApp phone numbers of each party.”

“We would like to remind the parties once again that the decision given by this court on July 23, 2024 remains valid until the final decision on the merits is reached.”

Recall that the plaintiffs obtained a court order on July 23 restraining the PDP from holding the neighborhood convention previously scheduled for July 27.

The court also stopped PDP from extending the mandate of the party’s Okere-led State Working Committee (SWC).

The court order on July 23 prohibited the party from holding or rescheduling its party congresses until the hearing and decision on the previously filed motion for notification.
