New York Jets vs Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are on fire and the New York Jets are trying to figure out how to turn their season around.

On Sunday, the two meet in the desert.

Arizona aims to extend its current winning streak to four games, while New York hopes to turn its season around before it’s too late.

Even though the season started off in stark contrast to both teams’ offseason expectations, this game is just as important for both, providing tons of things to prove and great opportunities to make a statement.

Going into this game, three stories stand out to me the most, especially for individual players.

I would be remiss not to mention the Cardinals’ overachievement and the Jets’ underachievement, so take that into account before examining three individual players.

I understand? Great. Let’s look at three storylines that will enter tomorrow’s match between these three players.

Garrett William

The Cardinals acquired Williams with a third-round pick in last year’s draft. Williams was recovering from a serious knee injury and was expected to miss the first half of the 2023 season, perhaps longer. Monti Ossenfort still liked him enough to use good draft capital to secure his services.

Williams appeared in nine games and recorded 23 tackles, two pass breakups and one interception. It was a performance that will leave you excited with the hope that the best is yet to come…

And that’s how it turned out.

Williams has emerged as a near-elite cornerback and arguably the Cardinals’ best defender. He will face a tough challenge against the Jets tomorrow but his recent performance will instill confidence.

Arizona Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr.

If you see Marvin Harrison Jr., please call the Cardinals immediately and they will reward you.

The fourth overall pick has been streaky at best this season, but has been virtually a non-factor over the last five games. Harrison had the first 10 yards and a touchdown against the Dolphins two weeks ago, but other than that he had just 91 receiving yards in his other four outings.

This can’t continue to be the case from your WR1 onwards.

Harrison has likely hit the infamous rookie wall that most first-year players see, but the Cards need him to get back on track quickly, especially with their playoff hopes firmly in their hands.

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodger

Meanwhile, for Gang Green, Rodgers has been heating up the last few weeks and it’s no coincidence that he’s getting consistent play from his pass catchers.

Garrett Wilson has finally broken through and given everyone the superstar we have been patiently waiting for. Davante Adams also reconnects with Rodgers, giving the Jets two elite pass catchers to get this offensive game to the level they expect to see.

At 3-6, a lot of things need to go right for the Jets to get back into the playoff picture. Fortunately for them, the wild card is wide open in the AFC, which is huge considering all four division titles are out of reach for almost every team with playoff hopes.

Rodgers has been cooking with Wilson and Adams and if they keep it up they will have a chance to exploit this start of the season.
