Dear Abby: I am horrified that my family and friends have distorted my daughter’s name.

DEAR ABBY:

What do you think about the situation where close family members and close friends misspelled my daughter’s name? He is currently 22 years old. We recently celebrated his college graduation and I was horrified to see his name was mistaken on the cards. This was done to him for years.

Abby, her name sounds like a more common name and I deliberately put her name on invitations and messages etc. I wrote. This makes me sad and she is already having a hard time teaching others how to pronounce her name, let alone how to write it properly. I feel a lack of concern or respect because they didn’t take the time to make sure. Am I right? — MISSPELLED IN NEW JERSEY

DEAR WRONG SOFTWARE:

How do these friends and relatives treat your daughter? If they treat him well, forgive the tarnishing of the name you have given him. He’s an adult now, so let him fight his own battles instead of taking him away from the people who care about him.
