Horror icon Tony Todd dies at 69

Tony Todd, star of the Final Destination movies, Night of the Living Dead, RockThe actor, known for his leading role in Candyman horror films, passed away at the age of 69.

He died “peacefully” at his home in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, Todd’s representative confirmed.

In a four-decade career and more than 200 acting credits to his name on the big and small screen, he will be remembered for many memorable roles: Set and roles in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. He also had a successful career on stage, including Broadway productions of The Captain’s Tiger, Othello, and the musical Aida.

The actor, who was born in Washington DC in 1954, became a household name and the symbol of the horror genre with his role in 1992. CandymanIt portrays the titular hook-wielding spirit of a 19th-century American slave. Adapted from Clive Barker’s “The Forbidden”. Candyman brought him to fame. He also appeared in two 1995 sequels. His co-star in the horror franchise, Virginia Madsen, paid tribute to Todd in a video posted on Instagram, saying: “I don’t know what to say right now.”

In her caption, she wrote: “My darling. Rest in strength until sweet heaven. The great actor Tony Todd has passed away and is now an angel. As in life. Later but I can’t. I love you right now.”

In a later post, he called Todd “a truly poetic man” with “a gentle soul with a deep knowledge of art.”
