New York City public and Catholic school students will be able to enjoy a three-day weekend as they have Monday off for the holiday.

according to Department of Education (DOE) academic calendar And Archdiocese of New York elementary school calendarSchools will be closed for holiday on Monday, November 11 Veterans Day.

The holiday is a day originally set aside to commemorate the end of World War I, but is now a day when our nation has stopped honoring all U.S. military veterans. Parades are held across the country, including New York City, to honor all who serve in all branches of the U.S. military.

DOE’s public school calendar It includes nearly two dozen days of break between the first and last day of classes. The calendar allows for leave for religious holidays, one-week breaks for winter break, midwinter break and spring break, and federal holidays.

For those who are more forward-thinking, there are plenty of days off before the end of the year. Public school students had a four-day week the last two weeks and next week.

The next time off for students after Veterans Day is when schools will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on November 28-29.

The additional day off during recess will give families more time for travel and vacation.

Public schools in New York City will be closed for winter break from Monday, December 23 through Wednesday, January 1. The last day of classes before the holiday will be Friday, December 20th.

Students will return to classes on Thursday, January 2.

This means that students will have 12 days off, including weekends, during winter break this year.

Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of New York also begin winter break on Monday, December 23, but the break lasts longer than public schools. Students will not return to class until the following week, Monday, January 6.
