Suns rookie’s strange jump shot goes viral

Be careful, Shawn Marion. There’s a new Phoenix Suns player with a great shooting stroke that’s making waves on social media.

A clip of Suns rookie Oso Ighodaro taking warm-up shots went viral on X. In the one-minute video, the 1,910 tall big man can be seen shooting from the left and right corners. What caught fans’ attention was how odd the Marquette graduate’s album looked. See for yourself.

Ighodaro made 3/5 from the left corner and 3/8 from the opposite end. In an NBA game environment, a 6/13 shooting clip from deep would be well above average. But in practice it is not very encouraging.

Part of what made Marion’s release effective was how quickly the ball left his fingertips. However, Ighodaro has a much slower exit, which will likely make it difficult to get the shot off even on a late closeout.

In his four years at Marquette, Ighodaro made just two 3-pointers and missed both. He has not yet won a win in the NBA in the four games he played.

Considering how important distance is in the professional game, it’s no surprise to see him try to add the long-distance shot to his arsenal. But Ighodaro clearly has a long way to go before he can be seen as a threat from long range.
