Bomb threats reported at ballot counting centers in Southern California

Bomb threats were reported Friday night at two ballot counting locations in Orange and Riverside counties in Southern California.

The threats came because people were in both buildings counting votes in the November 2024 general election races.

Orange County’s elections office received a bomb threat at its Santa Ana office Friday evening. Orange County deputies arrived at the scene and helped evacuate people in the building.

Orange County officials said no bomb was found and everyone was safe.

Deputies were called to the building along Gateway Drive a little after 6:30 p.m. for a Riverside County bomb threat. Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials said the Riverside office, like the Orange County building, was evacuated and everyone was safe.

It is unknown who was behind either threat, and authorities have not publicly said whether the two incidents are related.

Vote counting will continue on Saturday, November 9.
