LAKELAND, Fla. (Gray News) – A toddler died in a fiery crash in Florida after their father and a good Samaritan tried to save them, deputies said.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said a vehicle occupied by a father and his two young children went through the intersection, entered a grassy and wooded area and struck a tree before catching fire.

The father and a good Samaritan worked to get the children out of the backseat. Deputies said the duo were able to save one of the children, but the other child tragically died in the fire.

The injured father and his surviving child were taken to the hospital and treated. The good Samaritan was also treated in the hospital for burns he received while helping.

The investigation into the accident continues.
