Upper West Side shooting suspect arrested – NBC New York

A suspect was arrested and shot on various charges. Shooting on the Upper West Side on Thursday This prompted subway passengers to take shelter under the seats, the NYPD said.

Eduardo Diaz was arrested just after 11 a.m. Friday on charges including attempted murder, assault and weapons possession. Police did not share what the relationship between Diaz, 42, and the victim might have been.

Police responded to a call about a shooting near West 69th Street and Columbus around 9:15 a.m. and found a 47-year-old man shot in the leg and shoulder. The person was taken to hospital and is expected to recover.

It is unclear whether the shooting victim had ever known the gunman, who police say walked into the subway station at Central Park West and 72nd Street. In the images sent to the Citizen application, it can be seen that the area was immediately closed. The area around a bus stop was littered with shattered glass, and a bullet hole was visible in the door of an apartment building just behind the stop.

In the footage captured on security cameras, people were seen running on the sidewalk and bursting into workplaces immediately after the incident. Police helicopters flew over Central Park looking for the armed suspect.

Authorities are investigating a shooting on the Upper West Side in which the suspect disrupted subway service and fled to the public transportation system in the middle of the day.

The city’s Office of Emergency Management issued a notice warning people to expect delays and service changes on southbound A, B, C and D trains between 72nd Street and 110th Street in Manhattan. More than a half-dozen lines experienced delays until Thursday afternoon.

A law enforcement source confirmed that the suspected attacker is a man wearing a green jacket and light-colored hat in the video. The man was seen walking toward 69th Street moments before the shooting and was again seen leaving a computer repair shop around the corner, sources said.

Inside that store, the suspect argued with the victim and then followed him as he ran outside, according to multiple law enforcement sources. Store employees said the person who was shot was the business owner.
