DECC is full of Scraps for its biannual vintage market

While many are working to get rid of garbage, thousands more are expected to go to DECC to adopt and solve them.

The Duluth Junk Hunt is a biannual event that has been held since 2012. Now, more than a decade later, the event has grown to include more than 100 different vendors.

“We started with half a dozen stalls and now we have 150. So it’s really growing. We always find new vendors at every fair. says Emily Broman, who founded Junk Hunt.

The event takes up two rooms in DECC’s convention space. Broman said he expects about 5,000 people to attend the event over the two-day period. While visitors will find plenty of vintage “junk” such as antiques, furniture, and the like, most of the vendors sell their own works; candles, crafts and plenty of food.

“You find weird, unique things you can’t find anywhere else.” One buyer said he proudly showed off the antique brass candlestick.

It’s not just scrap hunters who enjoy the experience, dealers also say they appreciate the annual event. St. Vendor Todd Scott, who runs The Rusty Pick in St. Cloud, says he comes to the event every year.

“We’re having a showdown at the Junk Bonanza in Shakopee. I don’t get to do most of them, but I do a couple of what I call bigger shows. And this is definitely one of the bigger, better ones in Minnesota.” Scott said. His booth features many vintage items carefully selected just for the show.

“We’re very good at vinyl, unique products are also very good. And of course, holiday business is going well this time of year. You know, sleds. We bring in a lot of different holiday elements. As the holidays approach, Scott’s store is far from the only store selling holiday gear.

Broman says at the end of the day, Scrap Hunting is more than just things being bought and sold.

“We always give some of our proceeds to a different local nonprofit.” This year, Second Harvest Northern Territory was elected.

Duluth Junk Hunt Valid until Friday, November 8, 19:30 and Saturday, November 9, 09:00-16:00. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $7.
