Former teacher who pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against children was sentenced to prison

OLATHE, Kan. (KCTV) – A former middle school teacher convicted of child sex crimes has been sentenced to prison and will have to register as a sex offender for the next two dozen years.

Johnson County, Kansas, District Attorney’s Office On Friday, November 8, Judge Neil B. Foth sentenced Keil E. Hileman, 55, to 2 years in prison. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for 25 years.

In August, court records showed Hileman, the 2004 Kansas Teacher of the Year and National Teacher of the Year finalist, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted unlawful sexual intercourse.

Hileman, a former teacher at Monticello Trails Middle School in Shawnee, was charged with six counts of unlawful sexual intercourse in October 2022, but a plea deal reduced the number of charges against him to two, court documents said.

Investigators found that the crimes, all committed against teenage victims, occurred between June 1, 2017, and October 4, 2022. In 2022, the De Soto Public School District was notified of the allegations and Hileman was immediately removed from the classroom.
