BBC announces new Stacey Dooley commission as Grierson wins Trustees’ Award

He will meet workers in the workshop and witness the impact of constant shoplifting on their lives and meet staff who are subjected to violence and abuse from shoplifters while trying to do their jobs.

The Luton-born presenter is recognized for his outstanding contribution to the art and craft of documentary and has appeared in many series, including the BBC. Stacey Dooley: Followers, Stacey Dooley: Are We Ready for War? And His Two Daughters. Dooley has produced over 70 documentaries for the BBC exploring a wide range of topics, highlighting social issue themes such as child labour, women in developing countries, slavery and the illegal drug trade.

His career took off after he appeared in the 2008 BBC Three documentary Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts. The Grierson Prize trustees were impressed that Dooley had developed his career and brought a fresh perspective to the genre without a background in journalism or broadcasting.

Stacey’s previous awards include the One World Media Awards’ Popular Films Award for Face to Face with ISIS, Best Presenter at the 2021 Women in Film & Television Awards, and the On-Screen Personality Award at the 2023 RTS East Awards for Two Girls. In 2018, he was awarded the MBE for his services to broadcasting.
