Arizona Supreme Court rejects Kari Lake’s bid to vacate 2022 loss

Republican Lake Kari i lost it last try while becoming governor Arizonatwo years after he lost the state’s 2022 gubernatorial election.

The Arizona Supreme Court rejected his bid behind closed doors just one day after the Nov. 5 election. The state’s high court also rejected similar motions by Republicans Abe Hamadeh and Mark Finchem to address their own losses in statewide races two years ago.

In the petition, Lake’s legal team argued that “the 2022 election is irreparably flawed.” There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2022 Arizona midterm elections. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) defeated Lake by more than 17,000 votes.

Lake’s legal challenge alleged problems with ballots and long lines in Maricopa County; His legal team believed these were sufficient grounds for him to be declared governor of Arizona or, potentially, to re-run the election in the state’s most populous county.

In response to Lake’s latest objection in August, Maricopa County attorney Tom Liddy issued a scathing response on the matter.

“Instead of offering reasons why review should be granted, the petition merely argues that Lake was right and the lower courts were wrong,” Liddy wrote. “The petition makes this claim by simply parroting Lake’s position, ignoring much of the legal reasoning and all of the evidence that led the lower courts to rule against him.”

The high court’s rejection of the challenge spells the end of Lake’s long-running challenge to the 2022 election results, according to Phoenix attorney Tom Ryan.

“To paraphrase a quote from Charles Dickens’ 1843 short story ‘A Christmas Carol,’ Karl Lake’s case is dead as a doornail,” Ryan said. Arizona Mirror in an email statement. “Or, to paraphrase Monty Python from the Dead Parrot skits, Karl Lake’s situation is devoid of life, joined the Eternal Choir, kicked the bucket, bought the farm, lacks any observable metabolic processes, and longs for the Norwegian fjords. “He died.”

Lake is currently trailing his Democratic opponent, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ). state Senate raceHe made a name for himself as an advocate of election denialism by repeating claims that the 2020 election was stolen from now-President-elect Donald Trump.

Hamadeh Won a seat in Congress This cycle, he is set to represent Arizona’s 8th Congressional District in the House of Representatives, while Finchem will also return to the House. State Senate.

Hamadeh lost to Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes by just 280 votes after a recount and filed her own lawsuit in Mohave County. Mayes applauded the Arizona Supreme Court’s decision.

“We applaud the Supreme Court’s correct decision to end Mr. Hamadeh’s frivolous appeal,” Mayes said in a statement. “This puts an end to a series of unfortunate and ill-informed lawsuits that have carried over into an entirely new election cycle. “I will continue my work as an advocate for all Arizonans.”
