CPD officer killed: Chicago police procession brings Enrique Martinez’s body to funeral home; Darion McMillian charged

CHICAGO (Wales) — The body of fallen Chicago police officer Enrique Martinez, 26, was moved to a south suburban funeral home on Friday.

A procession brought Martinez’s body from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office to Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn.

Chopper 7 was in the parade just after 11 a.m.

Martinez will be honored Sunday during a special service for officers at Saint Christina Church in Greenwood Mountain.

The man accused of killing Martinez at a traffic stop earlier this week was denied pretrial release Thursday.

Darion McMillian, 23, of Harvey, was charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. illegal use of a weapon and more.

At Thursday night’s vigil, friends, family and neighbors poured out their grief and tried to lift his family up in this time of tragedy.

Close friends of martyred Chicago police officer Enrique Martinez, who was in tears at the memorial ceremony, said that his charismatic personality and sense of service will never be forgotten.

“He was there countless times for other people, so I think we owe it to him to kind of welcome him and his family,” attendee Carlos Martinez said.

The vigil was held at St. Paul’s Church on the West Lawn, where the officer was known, respected and loved. It took place after the service at St. Nicholas Tolentine Church.

“He was such a wonderful person, he would smile big at his friends and light up the room,” said attendee Francisco Gutierrez.

Martinez attended elementary and high school in the area and graduated from Hubbard High School in 2016.

Martinez’s funeral plans are still being finalized.

A GoFundMe has been started to raise funds for the Martinez family.
