Bears’ Offensive Line Status Says Little to GM Ryan Poles

There is no better indicator of where the Bears’ offense is than offensive line ratios.

Although The Athletic rates Caleb Williams behind Bo Nix among rookie QBs and the Bears’ offense is struggling overall, things might look better except for their line’s decline.

Pro Football Focus’ offensive line rankings have been released, and the Bears dropped a full six points as a result of their performance against Arizona.

As the season is about to start, they Ranked 11th by PFF.

Now, They are ranked 26th. This is a real regression in what should have been a strong area for Bears GM Ryan Poles, who had a very brief stint as an offensive lineman in the NFL. It doesn’t mean much to offensive line coach Chris Morgan, either.

So while Williams faces constant criticism, he also faces constant passing attack. Last week’s six sacks were typical.

The biggest issue facing the offensive line right now is health, but depth is one area where they are not lacking.

It looks like they will be running tackle Braxton Jones to at least try to play against New England. However, Darnell Wright did not practice from this week until Thursday.

They could protect Ryan Bates again this week, who is fully healthy and could return from IR. He may still be serving in a reserve role.

They definitely aren’t moving center Coleman Shelton anymore.

“Right now I think Ryan is doing a great job getting back into the game after the injury,” offensive coordinator Shane Waldron said Thursday. he said. “I think Coleman does a great job of controlling the inside of the line in terms of communication and calls. Then each week we’ll have to deal with injuries or different things that happen where players will be cross-training and getting ready to play in multiple spots. That’s what Ryan has in the game.” We know we have full confidence that he can play all three interior spots.

NOW CALEB WILLIAMS IS NOT EVEN RATED AS THE SECOND BEST Rookie QB

ALL THE BEARS’ OFFENSIVE PROBLEMS CANNOT BE TRACKED BACK TO CALEB WILLIAMS

BEARS WEEK 10 THURSDAY INJURY REPORT: MAJOR INCREASE IN TALKING CONDITIONS

WHAT’S WRONG WITH CALEB WILLIAMS’ DEEP SHOTS?

“But like every week, we’ll evaluate that leading up to the weekend and as different circumstances arise, but right now we’re just looking for Ryan from that standpoint, keep recording good things every day. He’s been practicing, which he continued to do after he came back from rehab.”

The Bears have now allowed sacks on 8.55% of sack plays; That’s worse than all but six other teams. While there were some injuries, the team was healthier and kept a higher percentage of starters together than the last two seasons.

Not all Bears ratings news regarding PFF’s offensive line is bad.

Guard Matt Pryor’s pass blocking had a high PFF grade of 86.6. Buday stated that his score of 81.3 was the 11th best among all guards last week, and that his score of 81.3 was the 11th best among all guards.

Buday also had a positive report on Teven Jenkins. Last week Jenkins was out injured and questionable for play but was labeled as the best player on the field.

“Jenkins allowed 4.2% pressure on pass plays this season, the best rate of his career,” Buday wrote.

The bad news here, of course, is that the Poles won’t sign Jenkins to a new contract, and Jenkins is scheduled to become a free agent after this season.
