Suspect who killed Arlington man arrested in Sterling

An Alexandria man accused of killing two people has been arrested. Including a man from Arlington.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office announced that 18-year-old Marlyn Medrano-Ortiz, a suspected MS-13 member, was taken into custody. arrested and charged with second degree murder For a double murder in Sterling in August.

Medrano-Ortiz is accused of killing 22-year-old Mijal Conejero-Romera of Sterling and 22-year-old Arlington resident Diego Alexander Woollett in August, according to a statement from Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman. 28.

The couple was shot to death after an apparent argument in the 21000 block of Ridgetop Circle near Dulles Town Center, Chapman said.

Medrano-Ortiz was arrested Wednesday evening near the Arlington border in Alexandria’s Arlandria neighborhood.

“On October 23, at approximately 6:01 p.m., in the 4100 block of Mount Vernon Boulevard, Alexandria Police Department officers recognized the suspect from a law enforcement bulletin shared with our partners,” Chapman said. “Through their initiative, they were able to arrest Marlyn Medrano-Ortiz…working cooperatively with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service.”

In his statement, Chapman stated that Medrano-Ortiz was residing in the United States illegally. Chapman reiterated his opposition to “unlawful treatment of individuals who commit crimes against U.S. citizens and others in this country.”

“This remains an ongoing investigation and additional charges will arise regarding the deaths of both victims,” the press release adds.

Born in Colombia, Woollett immigrated to the United States at age 14. He graduated from Washington-Liberty High School in 2022 and entered the workforce as a driver for Amazon. This is how he met his girlfriend, Conejero-Romera, who worked in one of the company’s warehouses. His mother previously told ARLnow that Woollett loves playing football and plans to start college this fall.
