Many Democrats feel ‘too tired’ to launch resistance movement to another Trump presidency: Report

Many anti-Trump liberal activists don’t know if they have the courage to continue a resistance movement against President-elect Donald Trump for another four years, The New York Times reported.

Many Democratic voters became vocal anti-Trump activists following Trump’s victory in 2016; He held rallies, marches, and incited liberal politicians to thwart the then-president’s first-term agenda.

One of the most visible demonstrations of mass anti-Trump resistance occurred just after he was sworn in in 2017, when several hundred thousand Americans donned pink hats and gathered in Washington, D.C. Women’s March.

The opposition movement has continued unabated throughout Trump’s presidency, energizing the left and inflaming tensions across the country. But The Times reported that the movement’s passion may be waning.

“Now that Mr. Trump has been elected president once again and is poised to lead a still-divided country that voted more decisively in his favor this time, many of those same people are wondering whether they can muster the strength to do anything — or even some over and over again.” he declared.

Ken Turco, a Resistance member and photographer from North Carolina, told the press that he was done with political activism after Trump’s victory this week. “I’m done. I’m just tired. Nothing changes in this country. There are too many people who feel differently than me.”

Turco admitted that he deleted all his information social media and added that he would drop volunteer work to help North Carolina residents rebuild after Hurricane Helene because they live in Republican-leaning counties and news apps track the results.

“I don’t care what happens to them. They voted for it; they’re going to get it. They’re going to get everything they want,” Turco said.

New Jersey history professor Elizabeth Hyde told The Times she wasn’t sure if Trump would attend another Women’s March during his second term.

“I found myself saying, ‘I don’t know, because it could be very dangerous,’ and I think that speaks to the changes we’ve experienced between 2016 and today,” he said.

Not all resistance members said they were worn out. Liz Folkestead from Colorado Googled “How can I move me and my two kids to Portugal?” Even though he admitted that he searched, he told the media that his fight was not over.

“My anger is starting a fire. I will fight. I will show up, I will walk. It is comforting to know that you are not alone.”
