PORTLAND, Ore (KATU) — Sociologist and professor Dr. The greater Portland area, known as a liberal hub, has some political common ground with the rest of the country, according to Randall Blazak.

“I think Portland is a microcosm of the country in a way; There are a lot of changes happening and people are uncomfortable with change. We get kind of nostalgic about the past when change could be a little scary,” Blazak said.

Blazak says some of this Election of Keith Wilson As Portland’s next mayor.

“Wilson is not Trump socially in terms of his relationship with the local community. He’s actually worked in the community and gotten his hands dirty, but what it means to support a Wilson is what it means to support someone in the private sector, because the public service sector is so broad and encompassing and tries to do so many things. people are happy. I think that’s the parallel with Trump,” Blazak said.

When it comes to President-elect Donald Trump, Blazak says there are concerns, especially in the blue Greater Portland area.

What’s true across the country, Blazak says, is this: “The biggest thing we have is this polarization where we don’t talk to each other and we argue with each other on social media,” Blazak said. “We actually have a lot more in common, and once we get past the emotional, you know, fear that a lot of people are in this right now, the goal will be to get people back to the table.”
