NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities have declared a South Nashville home a public nuisance after officers responded to more than 200 incidents there over the past 10 years, resulting in nearly 60 arrests for a variety of crimes.

“This is an extreme but necessary action for the well-being of families living in the Shasta Drive area,” Metro Police Chief John Drake said. “Our officers are determined to bring peace to this neighborhood.”

Authorities said the house was declared a public nuisance under a temporary injunction and padlock order issued by a Criminal Court judge. In a petition filed by the District Attorney’s Office, the homeowner is accused of allowing drug dealing, shootings, transporting stolen vehicles, drunkenness, fighting and disturbing the peace inside and outside the residence day and night.

According to MNPD, Southern Regional Commander. Kevin Lovell met with the landlord in September 2023 to reiterate that the criminal issues needed to stop, but since that meeting there have been approximately 47 incidents requiring police or emergency attention.

Officials said numerous neighbors on Shasta Drive expressed disgust at the activities taking place at the home and expressed concern “for the safety of the community and especially for children who are restricted from spending time outside due to illegal events.”

Police said people were arrested at the property for crimes including domestic assault, parole violation, burglary, possession of a felonious weapon, aggravated assault, burglary, possession of cocaine and marijuana, resisting arrest and vehicle theft.

“The interim injunction requires the home to be searched and inspected by the Fire, Code and Health Departments before being locked down,” officials said, adding that the homeowner was ordered to appear for an initial hearing at 9 a.m. Tuesday. 12 November.

MNPD said this was the fifth time they broke into and padlocked a private residence under Tennessee’s public nuisance law.

The last time it happened was in February 2020 in a Hermitage house After law enforcement found a murder and numerous drug problems there. Authorities said there were 26 people in the house at the time of the raid, 11 of whom had outstanding warrants and a baby in “terrible” conditions.
