Jones kills two people in house fire near US 95

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A house fire this week claimed the lives of two Las Vegas residents; This is the latest in a string of recent fire deaths in our valley.

According to a press release from Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, firefighters received a call about a fire at 209 Catalini Street on Wednesday at 11:07 p.m.

The first units arrived on scene in the area of ​​US 95 (now Interstate 11) and Jones Boulevard within four minutes of being deployed, the agency said.

Fire officials said firefighters forced their way into the home and found two victims, a male and a female. While the teams took the flames under control, both people were rescued from the house.

Authorities said the man in the home died from his injuries. The woman was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the fire, but noted two men “illegally entered the building.”

It is estimated that the fire caused $50,000 in damage to the home.

Fire officials also stated, “There are no current or new Code Enforcement or Fire Prevention inspection activities associated with this address.”
