READING, Pa. – Just like on Election Day, many campaign signs have already disappeared.

“It’s now the campaigns’ responsibility to take them down. Municipalities will have their own crews to take them down. PennDOT will have their own crews to take them down as much as possible, but that’s not their main focus,” the Berks County Chief said. Operations Officer Kevin Barnhardt.

Barnhardt said he hopes the sign stragglers will be finished off in the coming days.

“Obviously, we’re very happy with the collection so far. The weather is beautiful. Crews are clearing the signs. If there are signs left, the weather is still nice. Get out and clean up the landscape.” in question.

Campaign signs are temporary and must be removed immediately after the election, according to PennDOT.

Campaigns across Berks County appear to have largely cleared them out.

Single campaign officials 69 News spoke with say they are putting up fewer signs this year.

Could this be a signal of change?

“It could happen that way. The trends are going in a different direction. There are early ballots by mail. People are literally starting to vote weeks earlier than they normally would,” Barnhardt explained.

With so much text and social media targeted political advertising this year, does that cut into the budget for old-fashioned signs and mailings?

“The signs are actually a reminder. The signs don’t vote, but they are a reminder. I don’t see them ever going away, but maybe it’s not their explosion,” he added. “They’re expensive too.”
