Application Checklist for International Applicants | How to Apply | Undergraduate Admission

International students applying as freshmen are accepted for enrollment in the fall semester, when you can attend the full new student orientation program. Review application checklistimportant dates and deadlines and special application instructions for international applicants.

Application Checklist
  1. Common Application – Follow Special instructions for international applicants.
  2. Secondary School Report Form – Contains official records of your courses and grades at all secondary schools and universities you attended. To complete middle school records, we need your entire high school records as well as records from your ninth grade year (senior year or senior year of middle school). These records must be sent to us directly from your school. Certified transcripts or grade reports that are not in English must be accompanied by official (literal, rather than interpretive) translations. If your transcript or evaluations need to be translated, you can benefit from a translation service.   3. Students who apply as international transfer students, horizontal transfer student application requirements.
Optional Application Materials
  1. Teacher Evaluation Form and Letter of Recommendation – You may submit a letter of recommendation with your application. Please do not send more than two.
  2. Standardized Test scores – You can submit SAT/ACT scores and TOEFL, Duolingo, or IELTS scores, which are highly recommended for international and non-native English speakers.

  4. First Appearance – William & Mary is a welcoming community with endless opportunities to discuss big ideas inside and outside the classroom. Candidates whose native language is not English may participate in a third-party, unscripted interview at: First Appearance. If you’ve interviewed with InitialView, we encourage you to consider adding William & Mary to your list of schools as an optional way to complete your application.
Dates and Deadlines

If you are applying to William & Mary, we ask that you submit your application. Common Application By November 1 (Early Decision I) or January 5 (Early Decision II and Regular Decision). The application must be made by 23:59 in your time zone on the application deadline. Additional materials, including transcripts, test scores, and recommendations, may be submitted after the application deadline.

Personal Statement

The Undergraduate Admissions Committee uses your written essay to learn more about you and evaluate your writing skills. It is very important that you write these essays yourself so that we can make our admission decision knowing your English proficiency. We do not intend the writing sample to be a formal piece but a response to one of our questions. Try to be specific when describing their interests, beliefs, or experiences.

Activities/Interests

In many high schools in the United States, students participate in clubs, sports, and community service. The Undergraduate Admissions committee recognizes that extracurricular activities will vary depending on one’s culture and educational system. On this page, please list any interests, activities or work experiences that will give the committee insight into your life and how you choose to spend your free time.

Name

Your name should always be written in the same order in all correspondence. Be consistent. Students are required to write their last name or family name as “surname” on the application and all supporting documents. Non-US citizens must write their name exactly as it appears on their passport. Applying under one name and sending documents and identity information under another name will cause the process to be delayed.

Social Security number

If you are not a US citizen or permanent resident, you may not have a social security number. Please leave this section blank. The Undergraduate Admissions Office will issue you a student identification number.

Date of birth

Please enter the month, then the day, and then the year.

Freshman or Transfer Student

If you have not yet completed studies at a university, please mark as a first-year student. You will still be evaluated for transfer credit and may then be classified as a sophomore.

CEEB Number

This number is provided to many international schools by the University Board to help track applicants; If your school does not have such a number, leave it blank.

Main Work Area

Unlike many other foreign universities, William & Mary students do not choose their major field of study until the end of the second year. Please mark your area of ​​interest but note that your choice is not a factor in the admission decision.
