Forty monkeys escape from research facility in South Carolina | US News

Forty monkeys escaped from a research facility in South Carolina.

Thermal imaging cameras and traps were deployed to recapture. animalsIt was freed from the Alpha Genesis site in Yemassee Wednesday night.

“Residents are strongly advised to keep doors and windows secure to prevent these animals from entering homes,” police said on Facebook.

Residents in Yemassee, about 50 miles west of Charleston, were told not to approach the monkeys and to call 911 immediately if they spot them.

Alpha Genesis says it provides “more than 100 acres of quarantine, breeding, holding and research space” as well as “nonhuman primate products and bioresearch services.”

It conducts clinical research, including treatments for brain diseases, and says it provides “the highest standards of care for all animals.”

The escaped species has not been disclosed, but the company’s website states that there are macaques and capuchin monkeys.

This isn’t the first escape from Alpha Genesis. According to local mediaThe 19th were reportedly released in 2016 and recaptured six hours later.
