HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Jury selection ended Wednesday morning in Dixie Villa’s involuntary manslaughter trial.

The court then took immediate action opening remarks.

Deputy Prosecutor Tiffany Kaeo told the jury that Villa administered a lethal amount of Benadryl to seven-month-old Abigail Lobisch in February 2019.

Kaeo said the toddler could be heard crying for a while, then the crying stopped.

Villa, along with several other children, had been babysitting the boy throughout the night.

Kaeo said the child had twice the lethal amount of the allergy medication, which is not recommended for children under six.

Villa’s attorney, Megan Kau, told jurors in her opening statement that no witness who testified would say they saw her client administer any medication.

Kau said there is no evidence that Benadryl is available in pill, liquid or topical cream form.

“We found no evidence of when this was given, whether it was days before,” Kau said.
