IPOH: The habitual hoarder’s house here has been cleaned out more than four times in the last four years.

In the last clean-up carried out on Thursday, November 7, Ipoh City Council collected 710 kg of garbage in three trucks during four hours of work.

The woman, in her 70s, lives in a single-storey house at Jalan Merpati in Ipoh Garden with her husband, who is believed to have Parkinson’s disease.

Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said the woman continued to collect recyclables and stored them inside and outside her home.

He said the operation began at 8.30am and took workers four hours to clear the area of ​​materials made of plastic, paper, wood and iron weighing a total of 710kg.

“The woman has been taken to court and fined twice in the last four years.

“We advised the woman to contact a recycling center to sell the items, rather than collecting them and keeping them at home,” he said in a statement released on Thursday, November 7.

He said all the collected items were sent to a recycling center in the IGB industrial zone with the permission of the homeowner.

He added that the company paid the woman based on the weight of the items.

“If he continues to carry out this type of activity the council will take stricter legal action,” he said.

In May, The Star reported that the porch of the woman’s home was littered with broken flower pots, plastic bags, old hangers, cardboard boxes and bottles, among other things.

A neighbor interviewed later said the couple were among the first to move into the residential area about 30 to 40 years ago.

“It wasn’t always like this, but a few years ago she started collecting recyclables and leaving them on the porch.

“There is only enough space for one person to leave the house. His neighbor said, “We do not dare to say anything to him for fear he will not tolerate this.”
