ST. LOUIS—St. St. Louis Blues forward Dylan Holloway returned to the team’s practice facility on Wednesday and appeared to be recovering from a serious injury a day later against the Tampa Bay Lightning after he was hit in the neck with a puck and left the ice on a stretcher.

“I feel good today, a lot better,” Holloway said. “I knew something was wrong as soon as I got hit, but then I saw we were fighting two on one, so I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. “But when I got in line I was a little dizzy and didn’t remember much from there until I got on the stretcher next to the ambulance.”

The game was stopped with 1:11 left in the first period due to a high penalty; this penalty was later overturned when medical personnel from both teams began tending to Holloway before he was taken off the ice.

“I was more in shock, like I wasn’t quite sure what was going on and I was a little bit nauseous,” Holloway said. “They gave me a little medicine and once I realized what was really wrong, I started to calm down a little bit and feel better.”

Holloway died in St. Petersburg around 11 p.m. on Tuesday. He was released from a St. Louis area hospital and told to avoid physical activity for 24 hours.

Blues coach Drew Bannister said Holloway has a chance to return to the lineup in time for their next game against Utah on Thursday night.

“I don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves here. “There’s only less than 12 hours left before that injury happens, so we’ll take care of it day by day and see how it goes tomorrow, but today is a good day for us.”

Holloway’s parents, Bruce and Torrie, also attended the game and accompanied him to the hospital.

“It’s definitely hard knowing they’re watching this,” Holloway said. “But ultimately it’s much better to have them there. “They’re staying with me, so I was able to talk to them last night and it’s nice to have someone around.”

Holloway said he got score updates from his mother as the Blues came from 1-0 down to beat Tampa Bay 3-2.
