Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) will receive Capital funding of €2,178,284 for research equipment and infrastructure improvements was announced today by Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Patrick O’Donovan TD.

The funding is part of an €80 million capital financing package for higher education institutions across the state. €1,343,047 of DkIT funding comes from the Devolved Capital Grant and can be used to support small-scale building works, including energy efficiency and decarbonisation improvements, health and safety works, access improvements, refurbishment and the purchase or refurbishment of equipment, including ICT.

The remaining €835,237 will be provided through the Higher Education Research Equipment Grant (HEREG) and will help DkIT purchase world-leading research equipment to serve the research and development needs of Irish industry.

Speaking today, Minister O’Donovan said: “I am delighted to be able to allocate €80 million to our university campuses across the country through these two grants. The Higher Education Research Equipment Grant will allow universities to not only upgrade their research equipment, but also purchase new or additional research equipment.

“The Devolved Capital Grant will allow universities to invest in minor capital works programmes, refurbishment and refurbishment of equipment, ensuring their facilities remain up to date, fit for purpose and respond to climate targets.”
