Meet the New Man of Steel

DC All-in-One Special #1 ended up being: Darkseid’s end – and the beginning Absolute Universe. The Dark Lord of Apokolips said that if the main DC Universe is “driven by life and hope,” the new universe will be driven by hardship and turmoil. “A world where heroes are born to face greater challenges. where are they all advantages are gone. where are they little chaosrather than the system itself. A world where hope is slim. Where the bad guy is, the opposing force. And to survive all this, it will need to burn brighter than ever.”

DC All In initiative introduced Absolute Batman (by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta) and Absolute Wonder Woman (by Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman) – and now the Absolute Universe Triad is complete Absolute Superman #1 By Jason Aaron and Rafa Sandoval. This issue, due out on November 6, begins with a Superman who is not yet fully formed and is not a beacon of Truth and Justice yet to be embraced by humanity.

“The most important thing was getting right the heart of Superman, who this character is, his heart going back to (Jerry) Siegel and (Joe) Shuster in 1939, and everything that has made this character so enduring over the decades. Aaron told ComicBook: exclusive interview. “And also not to be precious about how we got there and how that character was shaped throughout her journey.”

DC made fun of this, on the contrary DCU equivalent In the pages of Joshua Williamson and Dan Mora SupermanThis Man of Steel has no family, no Fortress of Solitude, and no home. Will he still defend truth and justice in this new universe? That’s a question Aaron will answer as an Eisner Award-winning author (Image’s Southern Bastards and Marvel’s Thor And Doctor Strange) introduces a twist to Superman’s origin story in the first arc.

“I went in and changed a lot about Krypton, about his parents, about his life there, about how he came to Earth, about what happened when he got to Earth,” Aaron said. This includes his ties to Smallville, Kansas, and his relationships with the Kents, who were traditionally Kal-El’s adoptive parents when the Last Son of Krypton was thrown to Earth as a baby.

“All of these things are different, modified, adjusted, but they all come together to tell one coherent story,” Aaron added. “And really the most important thing is to come home: That’s what this character represents, why he fights, what motivates him, what makes him special.”

“Don’t make assumptions about how fit he is. “I would say he’s definitely not fully formed as Superman,” Aaron said, teasing an “ongoing process” that will unfold over the course of the new series. “There will be surprises there as to how he comes to Earth and what it’s like after he gets here, and you’ll get those answers in the pages of the book . Absolute Superman.”

While Superman is a father and married to Lois Lane in the main DCU, the new DCAU depicts a lonely, more solar-powered Superman who is more alien.

“One of the things that’s important, one of the things that differentiates the Absolute Universe from the main DC Universe is that these characters that we usually associate with a big family don’t have that here,” Aaron explained. “There is no family of Superman. Superman is the Last Son of Krypton and he is alone. “He is the only one who remembers his planet and his culture, and he has no allies.”

In this world born of Darkseid energy, “We’re making stories about these characters being a little more raw, a little more in danger (in the DCU),” Aaron said. “So I think this will help give you two very different versions of the DC Universe.”

Absolute Superman #1 goes on sale November 6 from DC Comics.
