In 2013, Tim Lambesis, singer of metalcore band As I Lay Dying, was arrested for attempting to hire an undercover cop to kill his estranged wife. Lambesis pleaded guilty to solicitation of murder and spent two years in prison before being released on parole. HE brought his band back togetherbut this group has now essentially disbanded again.

Last week, three members of As I Lay Dying met after Lambesis was released from prison. announced that they resignedHe claimed that their “personal morals” did not allow them to continue with the group. I Lay Dying’s tour manager also resigned and they canceled their upcoming tour. A few days later, guitarist Phil Sgrosso also announced his departureReferring to “patterns of behavior,” he wrote: “Simply put, recent actions have demonstrated that As I Lay Dying no longer provides a healthy or safe environment for anyone involved creatively, personally or professionally.”

Tim Lambesis, the sole remaining member of As I Lay Dying, has made his first public statement since the departure of all his bandmates. On Instagram, Lambesis acknowledges the existence of an “unhealthy environment” within the group and claims that Phil Sgrosso was actually the first AILD member to decide to leave, but the announcements came in a different order because “some of the statements were rushed during a chaotic period” in response to the rumors time.

Lambesis claims to support all his former bandmates and says he plans to continue with the band and that their new album will be released. In the Storms Ahead It will be released again as planned this month. All statements regarding the band’s breakup have been vague and insinuating, which makes me think more disturbing details may be imminent. Here is Lambesis’ explanation:

Hello everyone,

I needed some time to process what had recently happened with AILD. As I think about it, I definitely agree that it’s an unhealthy environment that makes it unrealistic to embark on a new tour with the previous lineup. Even the smallest details had become difficult to understand, and I admit that I was able to remain strongly committed to my vision for the future of AILD, even if others thought it should go in another direction.

It saddens me to think about the behaviors, communication and interaction patterns that led to the tour being cancelled. Phil and I were no longer getting along personally, creatively, or financially. Arguments during this time led to him first deciding to leave, and each of the tour members decided to leave shortly after as they did not want to continue without him. Unfortunately, this was not the time for everything to be made public, as some statements were made hastily in response to rumors during a chaotic time.

I fully support each man’s decision to leave and believe it is best for everyone at this time. However, my door will always be open to discuss anything directly as I believe that closing communication will lead to a lot of assumptions and problems.

Now for what’s next: AILD was founded on perseverance and determination. Anyone familiar with the founding years of 2000-2004 knows that more than 20 people (to whom I am incredibly grateful) have come and gone to help bring to life this vision that has been in my mind since I arrived. He was 19 years old. I look forward to building a new team and creating an atmosphere that fosters a supportive, positive and creative environment.
