Former Michigan State Star Continues to Struggle in Critical Zone

Former Michigan State Spartans star Kenneth Walker III is a perfect example of how Fantasy Football production and actual NFL value don’t always align.

On paper, Walker is a great Fantasy Football prospect due to his versatility.

The third-year Seattle Seahawks running back rushed for 398 yards and six touchdowns this season, while also recording 30 receptions for 217 yards and a score.

However, while Walker shared some solid counting statisticsA deeper look reveals that he hasn’t exactly lit up the Seahawks’ offense.

Walker is averaging just four yards per carry on the season and has logged less than 4 yards per attempt four times in seven games.

The 24-year-old most recently carried the ball 25 times for 83 yards in Seattle’s Week 9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Of course, volume is nice, but real production is not.

That’s been the case since last year, when Walker logged 905 yards and reached the end zone eight times. But he posted a pedestrian 4.1 yards per tote.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Seahawks rank 28th in the NFL under Walker’s leadership. They also rank 23rd in yards per carry.

Is it all Walker’s fault? Absolutely not. The offensive line is a major issue, and backup running back Zach Charbonnet isn’t likely to hit opposing defenses either. In fact, Seattle’s most productive runner this season has been quarterback Geno Smith.

So yes; There are other factors here as well. However, it increasingly appears that Walker, a former second-round draft pick, does not have what it takes to be a standout player at the NFL level. Is he a complementary player? Sure, but he’s not the focal point of an offense.

Which is a shame, considering how dominant Walker has been. in his last season At Michigan State, he passed for 1,636 yards and 18 touchdowns while recording a solid 6.2 yards per attempt.

Walker managed to enjoy an impressive rookie season with the Seahawks; He recorded 1,050 yards and nine scores on 4.6 yards per tote in 2022, but things have gone south since then.
