LANSING, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — More than 3.2 million Michiganders voted in the General Election and more than 1.2 million voters cast ballots during the early voting period, according to Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.

Michigan’s total turnout in the 2020 election was approximately 5.6 million total voters, 3.3 million of whom voted by mail.

“As we enter the final day of voting, I am pleased to announce that all of the trends we are seeing indicate that we are on track to see another high-turnout election with voters across the state enthusiastic and engaged,” said Secretary Benson. “I want to thank Michigan’s clerks and election workers; They all did an outstanding job managing early voting sites, setting up counting boards to pre-process mail ballots, and ensuring the voting process went smoothly and securely. “We all owe a huge debt of gratitude to these dedicated professionals, and I am extremely grateful for their tireless work for the people of Michigan.”

Eligible Michigan residents can register to vote in person at their city or county clerk’s office with proof of residence by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

According to data from the Electoral Bureau, women have so far represented 55 percent of the votes, while this rate for men is 45 percent.

Voters ages 18-30 account for 12.5% ​​of the total vote so far, and these young voters represent more than 17% of the state’s total early in-person votes. Michiganders over the age of 60 represent more than half of the votes cast so far, at 51.4%.

Washtenaw County, one of the state’s most populous counties, is leading in voter turnout so far with 54% of active registered voters casting ballots, ten points above the state average. The city of Ann Arbor also currently leads in municipal turnout, with 60% of active registered voters already voting.
