SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) — A homeless man died after he was stabbed and mauled by a group of dogs, possibly at a park in San Bernardino, police said.

According to the San Bernardino Police Department, paramedics and officers responded to Perris Hill Park on Sunday around 5:20 p.m.

Upon arrival, the victim was found with suspected stab wounds and dog bite injuries. The person who was taken to the hospital was declared dead.

“While the victim was being treated by medical personnel, a potential stab wound is suspected, but we are still not 100% sure,” San Bernardino police Capt. Nelson Carrington said. “We will not have this information until the coroner’s investigation is completed.”

A total of 11 dogs in the area were seized by San Bernardino Animal Control. Investigators are trying to locate the owner, who is also believed to be homeless, to get more information.

The victim’s cause of death will be determined by autopsy.

Police are trying to find people who witnessed the incident. A person of interest has not been identified at this time.

“There are a lot of homeless encampments in Perris Hill Park, so there are a lot of people we are trying to reach to find as many witnesses to the incident as possible,” Carrington said.
