Crash closed Burnt Store Rd and Embers Pkwy; second accident in a week

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral Police are investigating a serious injury crash at Burnt Store Road and Embers Parkway.

Police said three vehicles, including a cement truck, were involved in the incident. There are serious injuries and at least one person was hospitalized.

“There’s a little bridge there. Sometimes it can be hard to tell if someone is coming or not,” CCPD Public Information Officer Lisa Greenberg said.

It is not clear how the accident happened. The northbound lanes of Burnt Store Road and the eastbound lanes of Embers Parkway are closed.

This is the second crash at the same intersection in less than a week and the third in the past month.

Five people were injured when two cars collided on October 31.

Police said the crash involved one car traveling north on Burnt Store Road while the other vehicle was head-on heading east onto Embers Parkway.

According to Fox 4’s public records request, it was stated that there were 5 accidents at the intersection in 2022, this number almost doubled in 2023, and tripled so far in 2024.

Additionally, neighbors who spoke to Fox 4’s Bella Line say they’ve seen numerous medical flights over the years.

Richie Horstman, a neighbor, said: “As the population grows here, the traffic and the number of cars will also increase. If they extended the bridge over this road, I think that would be the answer to the question: it would save a life.”

Fox 4’s Bella Line reached out to Lee County to see if the Department of Transportation plans to replace this intersection, and they said they are working with CCPD to look into the causes of these crashes.

For now, CCPD said officers will continue to patrol busy roads like the Burnt Store to prevent collisions.
