California received the most delegate votes with 54 delegate votes, while Texas ranked second with 40 delegate votes.

There are six states, each with only three electoral votes: Alaska, Delaware, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming, and Washington D.C.

Texas gets two electoral votes in 2024. There were only 38 votes in the 2020 election.

According to the National Archives, “All states except Maine and Nebraska have a winner-takes-all policy, in which the state looks only to the overall winner of the statewide popular vote. Maine and Nebraska, however, appoint individual electors to the winner of the popular vote in each Congressional district, and then the overall statewide winner of the popular vote.” It is based on two “at-large” voters based on the winner of their votes.

Splitting votes is rare, but it happened in Nebraska in 2008 and 2020 and in Maine in 2016 and 2020.
