AG: Have questions about Election Day? Don’t trust artificial intelligence

New York State Attorney General Letitia James’s office tested multiple AI chatbots ahead of the election that included questions such as “when, where or how to vote” and found that the generated answers were not accurate.

Who should you call about voting rights?

Ahead of Election Day, the U.S. Attorney’s Office appointed Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua R. Rosenthal as the District Elections Officer for the Northern District of New York.

Rosenthal, along with U.S. Department of Justice Headquarters in Washington, D.C., will be responsible for overseeing the district’s handling of Election Day complaints, including concerns about voting rights, threats of violence against election officials or staff, and election fraud.

Here’s how you can report your concerns about Election Day:

  • Rosenthal can be reached at 518-431-0389 while the polls are open Tuesday.

  • Voters can also contact the FBI with reports of election fraud or other violations. The FBI Albany Office can also be reached by the public at 518-465-7551.

  • Complaints of federal voting rights violations may be reported directly to the Civil Rights Division in Washington, D.C., by filling out the complaint form at civilrights.justice.gov/ or by calling 800-253-3931.

  • Any violence or intimidation should be reported by calling 911.
