Grange Hospital worker’s sexual assault case collapsed

The case of a trainee healthcare worker who allegedly sexually assaulted two patients was dropped.

Ieuan Crump, 26, faced allegations that he touched two women inappropriately while carrying out a bladder scan at the Grange Hospital in Cwmbran in August 2021.

Crump had pleaded not guilty to nine charges of sexual assault, including three counts of assault by penetration.

The trial at Cardiff Crown Court had been going on for more than two weeks, but after deliberating on the second day the jury was dismissed by judge Vanessa Francis.

During the trial, the court heard that Mr Crump had worked as a paramedic at the hospital while studying to be a nurse.

After a two-week trial, the jury retired Thursday to consider its verdict.

However, on Monday, November 4 (the second day of hearings), Judge Francis dismissed them and ended the hearing.

Addressing the jury, he said he “couldn’t go into detail” about why they were dismissed, adding that it could undermine possible retrials in the future.
