A man has been charged in connection with a serious assault in County Antrim on Saturday.

Shortly after 19:30 GMT, a 74-year-old man was approached by two men on Station Road in the town of Antrim.

A punch to the retiree’s head knocked him out.

The person, who was seriously injured in the head, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The 21-year-old man is charged with assault, two counts of criminal damage and one count of attempted criminal damage.

He will appear before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The 25-year-old woman who was arrested within the scope of the investigation was also released on bail.
