Queens’ performance below average – Nation Online

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) president Vitumbiko Gubuduza says Queens can perform better in the Three-Test Series against the hosts South African Proteas.

Reacting to the team’s 69-24 loss in the last match at the Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg yesterday, he said the Malawi National Netball team had been given adequate support to prepare for the matches.

Gubuduza said: “Queens’ performance was below average. We should also note that SA is also rebuilding. Therefore, our rebuilding phase should not be an excuse for us to perform poorly and not execute.

“We think the team has made sufficient preparations. Therefore, we need to question the root cause of such a performance and see what we need to do.”

He said that they would review the technical panel after the defeat.

“We will get reports from the technical team and see what we can do going forward. We have a lot of work to do to ensure the team receives the necessary support and performs better in their next matches.”

Unlike the second test series match, where Queens drew 13-13 in the first quarter, South Africa was ahead 16-7 in yesterday’s match.

They continued the second quarter, which ended 31-11, without letting Malawi breathe.

In the third quarter, South Africa scored 19 points against Malawi’s eight and increased the difference to 50-19.

The difference in class and tactics showed itself in the fourth quarter as Malawi scored six baskets and South Africa made 19 field goals to increase the score to 69-24.

In the post-match interview, Queens coach Joana Kachilika attributed the defeat to a lack of rebuilding work and stamina, among others.

“The players could not follow the match in every quarter due to lack of stamina. Another issue is that we try different combinations. That’s why we need to create combinations,” he said.

In the first match on Thursday, Malawi lost 68-31 and 69-38 on Saturday.

The Bullets scored in the first minute through Ephraim Kondowe.

The People’s Team could have scored more goals but Hastings Banda’s excellent goalkeeping saved his team.

The only threat from Kaşu Barracks was Olson Kanjira’s powerful long-range shot that went narrowly clear.

After the break, Kondowe failed to score from a Crispin Mapemba pass.

Kaşu Barracks thought they had equalized with Kanjira’s goal in the 56th minute, but the referee canceled the goal due to offside.

In the 67th minute, Babatunde missed the ball in the 18-yard box after a nice pass from Ernest Petro.

But the Bullets weathered the Kaşu Barracks storm and calmed their fans’ nerves in the 73rd minute after Blessings Mpokera curled a long-range free-kick that gave Kaşu Barracks goalkeeper Banda no chance.

In a post-match interview, Bullets coach Kallisto Pasuwa praised his players.

Our opponent was very compact and played well. But we were a threat. We scored the early goal that made the difference.

It would have been difficult for us if we hadn’t scored that early goal. “Then we increased the intensity in the second half and scored the second goal.”

Kaşu Barracks coach Charles Kamanga admitted that they were struggling.

“Fatigue played a very important role in our defeat today. It’s not that I’m making excuses, but it’s the truth. It’s not easy to play three matches every week.

“But I have to congratulate the Bullets on their victory. They came with a plan and it worked. We had a plan but we couldn’t execute it.” N

80 minutes after he swooped upfield like a helicopter to head home in the seventh.

The way he raised his arms, clenching his fists, spoke volumes about the importance of his goal.

Before yesterday’s matches, Montpellier ranked sixth in the 12-team league with 10 points from six matches.

Kabzere could not be reached for comment.

National Women’s Football Federation president Adellaide Migogo said Saturday’s performance was evidence that she had calmed down. “His performance was impressive and if he keeps his composure he will achieve great things,” he said.
