Jaguars Delighted by Return of Rule-Breaking Superstar

The Jacksonville Jaguars (2-5) welcomed back two-time Pro Bowl tight end Evan Engram over the past two weeks after being sidelined for more than a month with a hamstring injury, and this organization couldn’t be happier.

The Jaguars haven’t had one of their best passing threats since Week 1, and they finally put him back on the field five weeks later and ran the offense with his play and leadership.

Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor weighed in on what it means for Engram to not only gain yards in this offense, but gain support and trust from his teammates.

“I think having Evan (Engram) around is a big part,” Taylor said. in question. “Evan is one of our juice guys. He brings a lot of energy to the people around him, he celebrates his teammates so well, he gets Brenton (TE Brenton Strange) and the players excited when they’re making plays. So that’s something he’s brought to the sidelines, but now between drives, between streaks.” He stays stuck. As the drive progresses, he’s one of those guys that tends to get a little bit more vocal.”

Engram is in his eighth season after being selected 23rd overall out of Ole Miss in the 2017 NFL Draft. He took over the leadership role as one of the senior players on the roster and continues to lead this team in year two, mentoring Brenton. The odd man out who is still new to the NFL.

In his first game back from the injury in Week 6, Engram caught 10 balls for 102 yards and had his best receiving game since his first season with the Jaguars in 2022. Beating the New England Patriots in London.

“Just because he was able to get the ball to him on the first play, he had 100 yards — whatever he had — he made a big play when he first came out,” Taylor said. “His ability to catch and run is huge, his playmaking ability, his comfort and the chemistry he has with Trevor (QB Trevor Lawrence) is important for us on some of our third downs as well.”

lawrence and Engram have been together for the past three seasons, combining for 200 receptions, 1,858 yards and nine touchdowns during that span. One of the most consistent quarterback and tight end duos in the NFL will reunite the group in mid-2024.

If Engram remains healthy and effective, the Jaguars will face plenty of passing threats with wide receivers all over the field. Gabe Davis, Christian KirkAnd Brian Thomas Jr. to help. Expect more standout plays and highlight plays from Engram and Lawrence as the season progresses.
