The alleged fraudster has denied stealing more than $700,000 from a small Queanbeyan plumbing business where he worked.

Rebecca Leigh Betts, 32, was charged in October with three counts of theft of property as a clerk and five counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by fraud.

The Latham woman is accused of taking a total of $736,778 while working as a clerk at Pro Plumbing and Gas Plumbing.

He is accused of posing as the recipient of illegitimate invoices, paying himself additional salaries, and making unauthorized payments from the company’s accounts between April 2021 and October 2023.

The woman appeared briefly in Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday where she pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Court documents allege Ms. Betts nominated herself as the recipient of 112 illegitimate invoices totaling $620,071 while she was working as a clerk for the company, paying herself an additional salary of $55,626.

He is also accused of paying his employer for maintenance on his car and making personal purchases from the company’s business accounts at Bunnings and Officeworks.

The documents also allege that the defendants used the fuel card of the plumbing business and deceived them by saying that the card was destroyed.

It is alleged that he also stole the welding kit.

NSW Police appointed a prosecutor who specializes in financial crimes of this magnitude to assist with the case.

Ms Betts will remain on bail until the matter returns to court next year.
