Winnipeg man arrested after barricading himself following domestic dispute

A 30-year-old Winnipeg man is facing multiple charges after allegedly barricading himself in his home early Saturday morning.

According to police, a “domestic trouble incident” occurred around 4 a.m. in the 400 block of Alfred Avenue.

When officers arrived, they said they saw an agitated man on the porch armed with a large, bladed weapon. Several family members, including young children, were evacuated safely. The man then barricaded himself inside the house, police allege.

The Winnipeg Police Service deployed its Tactical Support Team (TST) and Drone Unit and kept officers on scene for several hours.

After an unsuccessful attempt to deescalate the situation, TST members attempted to temporarily incapacitate the man using pepper spray. Officers then used a stun gun to take the man into custody.

The 30-year-old man faces multiple charges, including possession of a weapon, criminal mischief under $5,000 and resisting a peace officer. He was also arrested and detained on two arrest warrants.
