Fans criticize Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma after historic series loss and ask the duo to retire

Angry Indian cricket fans attacked X after the team’s first ever whitewash at home. India lost 0-3 against Tom Latham’s New Zealand; this was a new low in the history of Indian cricket. A section of fans took to social media after the match to call out Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for their poor play with the bat on Sunday.

#Etire was trending on X after Rohit and Kohli finished the series with 91 and 93 runs respectively after playing all three matches. The duo reached fifty each in the Test series, accounting for most of the 90 runs. Kohli and Rohit looked on with a touch of sorrow and had a few mind-blowing moments in the recently concluded series.

In fact, legendary India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar felt that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were going through a terrible patch of form. Speaking to Indian Express, Gavaskar said that the duo was going through a bad time and they had no chance in the series. Gavaskar added that ideally the Indian duo should do some match practice and preparation before embarking on a long Test season.

Both Kohli and Rohit were out early in the second innings at Wankhede as India chased 147 runs. After Rohit fell to Matt Henry, Kohli bowled his wicket to Ajaz Patel, who took a total of 11 wickets in the game.

Fans were furious with the senior Indian duo and criticized them on social media platforms.

This defeat has put India in a precarious position in the race for the World Test Championship Finals. India needs to win at least 4 matches and not lose a single match to qualify directly for the World Test Championship final. If India lose even one match, they will have to rely on other results to qualify for the final.
