A woman who was attacked with paintball guns near 63rd Street and Normandy loses her vision in one eye; Chicago police searching for suspects

CHICAGO (Wales) — A 19-year-old was just feet away from his Southwest Side home when someone shot him and several other people with a paintball gun.

“They were both on the ground, crying and screaming, and they had their hot chocolate with them,” said Adrean Murillo, the victim’s brother.

Halloween night ended tragically for Adrean’s younger sister, Vicky.

Vicky’s family said one of those shots hit her in the face, and doctors now believe her vision in one eye was permanently damaged.

Adrean said criminals go around their neighborhoods shooting paintballs at people.

“They said this car followed them around the block, then made a U-turn, threw the phones out the window, started recording, and that’s when they shot paintballs at them,” Adrean said.

Now Vicky and her friend are recovering from serious injuries they suffered near West 63rd Place and South Normandy Avenue.

Adrean said many of his neighbors were also shot with paintballs that same night, and he was frustrated by the senselessness of the crime.

“It seemed crazy to me because they were wearing pink, fluffy things. I don’t know who would target young women like that,” Adrean said.

The family said doctors did not believe Vicky would regain her vision in her left eye.

“Unfortunately, this is very unlikely and if any vision returns to that eye, it will be extremely blurry,” Adrean said.

The family said they continue to work with investigators to find evidence online and in their neighborhood.

However, CPD said no one has been arrested at this time.
