Brandon Moreno Breaks UFC Record, Dominates Amir Albazi in Edmonton

Top flyweight contenders Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi headlined the UFC’s return to Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The two were originally scheduled to meet in another UFC Fight Night main event in February, but after Albazi withdrew from that bout, Moreno faced Brandon Royval in a rematch of their 2020 encounter and suffered a split decision loss.

The loss to Royval puts Moreno on a two-fight setback after losing the flyweight belt to Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 290, but “Assassin Baby” has a chance to defend his No. 2 ranking when he is rebooked to move to No. 3 happened. -At the rank of Albazi in Edmonton.

Albazi was competing for the first time in over a year when he stepped into the cage to face Moreno, and despite having an unbeaten record in the UFC, he closed out as a minor underdog against the two-time flyweight king.

“Baby Assassin” did some serious damage on the feet in the third frame, and after some encouragement from his corner, Albazi came out more aggressive in the fourth but still struggled to establish a real rhythm on the feet.

Albazi once again began the final round with a sense of urgency but ended up visibly shaken by the two-time flyweight king, and although Moreno was unable to secure the finish, he scored one of the most dominant victories of his career.

The UFC Edmonton main card also featured big wins for Canadian fighters Mike Malott and Jasmine Jasudavicius; Additionally, Dustin Stoltzfus scored a key knockout over Marc-Andre Barriault and Erin Blanchfield defeated former flyweight queen Rose Namajunas in the women’s flyweight co-main event.
