Liam Livingstone scored his maiden ODI hundred to help England secure a series-level win in the second ODI against the West Indies in North Sound, Antigua on Saturday (November 2). Taking a captain’s knock, Livingstone scripted England’s chase of 329 – their second – the highest in the history of ODI cricket in the Caribbean.

England started the match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium under some pressure after losing the first ODI by eight wickets on October 31. Livingstone’s momentum in the second part of the innings was remarkable. He demonstrated his ability to score quickly and under pressure by converting a 60-ball fifty into a 77-ball century. Livingstone hit five boundaries and nine sixes for his 85-ball 124.

England eventually won the match by five wickets, overtaking the West Indies total with 15 balls to spare.

Livingstone’s innings was not a solo effort; was supported by several key partnerships. Phil Salt contributed 59 runs at the start of the chase, while Jacob Bethell scored his maiden ODI fifty with 55 runs. But it was the partnership between Livingstone and Sam Curran that really mattered. The duo added 140 runs from 107 balls with Curran scoring 52 runs from 52 balls. This partnership eased the initial pressure and set the stage for Livingstone’s superb display.

Batting first earlier in the day, the West Indies posted a stunning score of 328-6 in 50 overs. Shai Hope was the standout player for the home team as he scored his 17th ODI century with 117 runs. Other important contributions came from Keacy Carty (71) and Sherfane Rutherford (54), but they ultimately proved not to be enough.
