Rockets Looking to Beat Warriors for First Time in Four Years

The Houston Rockets recently earned a 108-102 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, and it was a big deal for a few reasons. First, it is always advantageous to beat not only a division rival but also an in-state rival. Additionally, this victory marked the first time the Rockets beat a team led by Luka Dončić since 2021.

The Rockets’ next opponent, the Golden State Warriors, is a team the Rockets are very familiar with. Historically, the Rockets have struggled against the Warriors, often losing to them, dating back to the James Harden era and continuing to the present day.

The Rockets haven’t defeated the Warriors since February 2020, and Houston has lost 13 in a row against Golden State.

The word “pandemic” wasn’t part of our everyday vocabulary to describe how long ago this happened. The latest victory came just a month before the world was shut down due to Covid-19. However, future Hall-of-Famer Stephen Curry was not on the Warriors side in this game.

If Steph Curry’s games against the Rockets are taken into account, the losing streak becomes even longer. The Rockets’ last win against a Curry-led team was in February 2019, during the Chris Paul-led Rockets era. This winning streak will continue because Curry will not be able to play in the game in Houston on Saturday night.

Even if Curry is out of the game, Houston’s goal does not change. They look to continue gaining momentum in a competitive Western Conference. Even in past games that Curry has missed, the Warriors have found a way to beat the Rockets. The Rockets’ margin for error is small, and you can’t take any team in the NBA for granted.

The Rockets welcome the Warriors, who are looking for their third straight victory, to the Toyota Center on Saturday night.
