A 13-year-old girl remains in a “critical but stable” condition in hospital after she was found next to a dual carriageway; A 14-year-old boy is charged with attempted murder.

The teenager was found with life-threatening stab wounds on the side of the A63 dual carriageway at Hessle, near Hull, East Yorkshire, at around 6.50am on Friday.

Humberside Police said the girl had stab wounds and lacerations to her neck, abdomen, chest and back.

Six teenagers were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Saturday and police confirmed they were “known to the victim”.

The incident is believed to have occurred in woodland next to a large meadow near the Humber View Hotel.

Police confirmed that four boys, aged 14, 15, 16 and 17, and two girls, aged 14 and 15, were found and arrested in a nearby wooded area on Friday.

Police said five people have since been released, while a sixth teenager – a 14-year-old boy – was later charged with attempted murder.

The 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was taken into custody and is expected to appear at Hull Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Detective Superintendent Simon Vickers said: “My team have been carrying out extensive investigations over the last 24 hours to establish exactly why this incident occurred and to understand the circumstances leading up to the attack on the 13-year-old girl. “She remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

“I can confirm that the attackers knew the 13-year-old girl and six teenagers are currently in custody and being questioned by detectives.”

Mr Vickers said cordons around the woodland on Ferriby High Road and the A63 had been removed but officers would remain in the area throughout the weekend.

He added: “I would like to thank once again the citizens who came to the girl’s aid, as well as everyone who has called so far and given us information.”
