Memphis footballer’s ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’ goal celebration goes horribly wrong

A University of Memphis player who was paying tribute to international soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo during a goal celebration injured himself in the process.

Memphis wide receiver Demeer Blankumsee went a little too rough in celebration while making banner day for the Tigers.

With the Tigers leading 17-14 on the University of Texas, San Antonio (UTSA) Roadrunners, Blankumsee increased their lead by catching a deep pass from quarterback Seth Henigan and making a 69-yard field goal.

To celebrate, Blankumsee decided to remove the ‘Siuuu’ celebration popularized by Ronaldo.

But he landed awkwardly and his knee bent backwards on the repeat. From another angle, Blankumsee can be seen lying on the edge.

Blankumsee did not return to the game but was seen on the sideline. Adding insult to injury, UTSA mounted a comeback to beat Memphis 44-36.

He finished the game leading the Tigers in receiving yards with six catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns.

However, with the loss, Memphis dropped to 7-2 on the season and 3-2 in American Athletic Conference play.

They’ll hope to bounce back when they beat Rice University next week.
