The Alabama singer hit the top 10, starred in the film and wrote soundtracks

Born in Huntsville and raised in Athens, Alabama singer Sarah Reeves has been on an upswing lately in her career.

Her catchy, inspirational song “More Than Enough,” which aims to uplift those recovering from toxic relationships, recently hit the Top 10. iHeart Radio’s adult contemporary playlistit puts her alongside headliners like Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga, and it rotates on Sirius Radio’s “The Pulse” pop channel 5.

“Women were moved by the lyrics of this song,” Reeves said in a phone interview from Texas, where he now lives. “I became much more vulnerable in my music.”

Last year, Reeves landed his first film role in “God’s Here,” opposite former TV “Hercules” star Kevin Sorbo, and also provided five songs and wrote the soundtrack. The film will open Nov. 2 at a theater in Granbury, Texas, where it was shot, and will soon be available for digital streaming in November on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, DirecTV and other media.

Reeves got his start in church and recording studios founded by his father, John Mark “Hershey” Reeves, an audio engineer who also worked in Muscle Shoals, including doing backing vocals and songwriting. “He was all over the Muscle Shoals music scene,” Reeves said. “He worked with the Swampers and Mac McAnally, the Oak Ridge Boys and Kenny Rogers. He was in the middle of it all. “There are some deep roots in my family.”

He also helped found Sound Cell Studio in Huntsville. “He helped start it and build it, and we grew up recording there,” Reeves said of Sound Cell. “I recorded my first CD there. He then built us a studio on our home property. We did most of the music and recording at my house.”

Hershey Reeves also owned his own aluminum construction company, built awnings, and was a worship leader at Oakmont Baptist in Oakmont and later New Life Assembly of God in Athens.

“My father was leading worship at our church,” he said. “I started singing harmony with him in church.”

When Reeves was 12, his father fell down the stairs and was out of work for weeks, leaving him at home with a broken leg. She gave her daughter singing and keyboard lessons, developing the piano lessons she started at the age of five.

She began establishing herself in Christian music circles as a young singer and moved to Nashville at age 21; There he began writing music for documentaries and movie trailers and landed a recording contract with Curb Records. Since 2009, he has released five full-length plays, six studio albums and 26 singles.

She told her manager she was interested in acting, as well as “God’s Here” writer, director and actor Bill McAdams Jr., who said he wanted to find a Christian female singer-songwriter who could provide songs for the film and also compose music. .

McAdams chose Reeves. “I got divorced after being married for 10 years,” said Reeves, now 35. “The first Christmas I spent alone was very strange and difficult, and I wrote a song about it. This movie is similar to that. It’s about loss during the holidays. Everything fell into line.”

The song “Christmas Feels Different This Year” fills an important scene in the film.

Reeves plays the wife of the title character played by McAdams.

Both McAdams and Reeves had recently divorced and began an affair during the filming of the film.

“We met on set for this movie almost a year ago and fell in love,” Reeves said. “We have similar backgrounds and similar stories. It’s really crazy how everything is a real-life fairy tale.”

The two got married on September 30, 2024.

“It’s like a side story, but I feel like it makes headlines every time,” Reeves said. “I’m married to Bill now.”

“Faith kept me going,” Reeves said. “My relationship with Jesus is number one; always has been and always will be. “Everything in my life revolves around this.”

Reeves said his Christian faith still shapes his music.

“I felt like God was calling me,” he said. “It put me in a situation where I could talk to people. When I perform in shows, I get to tell stories and talk to people about my life, what I’ve been through, and how God saved me. These people are crying.”

He said reaching people outside of a church setting is more satisfying than reaching them within a church setting.

“These people are seeing hope for the first time,” he said. “This makes a lot of sense.”
